Nine-time Champion Rafael Nadal's French Open is over as he pulled out of Rolland Garros with a wrist injury.
Nadal, 29, lost just 9 games out of the 45 he played in the first two rounds as he looked to be one of the strongest contenders for the title.
But the Spaniard revealed that he was forced to retire as he would risk more damage to his wrist - potentially a break - if he continued playing.
Speaking to a press conference called just 24 hours before his third round clash with Marcos Granollers, this is what he had to say:

Speaking to a press conference called just 24 hours before his third round clash with Marcos Granollers, this is what he had to say:
"Yesterday I played with an injection. Yesterday evening I started to feel more and more pain and today I felt I could not move my wrist...Nine times in my career I have been able to be healthy here in Paris and win this tournament...This is a tough moment and the toughest press conference I have ever had to give but it's not the end."
He later went on to post on his Facebook page about the sadness of not being able to play his "favourite" and the "most important" tournament in his calendar.
Meanwhile, Andy Murray produced his finest performance of the tournament so far with a convincing 6-1, 6-4, 7-6 win over big serving Croation Ivo Karlovic. Stan Wawrinka beat home favourite Jeremy Chardy in straight sets, but the latter's compatriot Richard Gasquet thrashed a poor and uncommitted Nick Kyrgios. The scores being 6-4, 6-3, 7-5 and 6-2, 7-6, 6-2 respectively.
On the woman's side, 10th seed Petra Kvitova lost a quite bizarre match to world number 108 Shelby Rogers, after crashing to a 6-0 first set loss she recovered well to win the second set on a tie-break. However she once again lost 6-0 in the final set to end her hopes. Simona Halep got the better of a three set battle against 18 year old Naomi Osaka but Gabriel Muguruza thrashed Belgian Yanina Wickmacker 6-3, 6-0.
